NEWS FROM the SCDOE

New Buses update:

School districts across the state are continuing to receive new school buses. There are now four variants of buses in service, including the Blue Bird 78 passenger-Type D and 72 passenger-Type C (Propane), along with the Thomas 72 passenger-Type C and 33 passenger-Type C. The new buses are providing some much needed relief to the states stressed pupil transportation program that has been lagging behind with the fleet age for some time. So far there have been approximately 375 units placed into service from the current contract, with deliveries continuing throughout the remaining school year and into the summer break.  Drivers and technicians alike have attended training sessions to familiarize themselves with the new equipment.

This infusion of new buses will not only provides a safer, comfortable and more reliable transportation resource for the students, but also provide those drivers lucky enough to have one with improved driver ergonomics and creature comforts. They are also helping to reduce the strained workload on the SDE’s 42 maintenance facilities and 100’s of technicians.

A great deal of thanks goes to the 1000’s of dedicated drivers, technicians, administrative and support staff for your patience and tireless support of the pupil transportation program. You are #TeamSCtransportation!
